Civil Rights Activists and Leaders – Research Project
CP US History
We are starting our new unit on the Civil Rights Movement. It took 100 years for African Americans to achieve civil rights and liberties in the USA. The Civil Rights Movement is what helped achieve that. You all will be learning more about this movement through the eyes of its leaders and activists.
Directions: You each will be assigned a civil rights activist. Your job is to research this person and write a research paper on their lives and impacts on the Civil Rights Movement. Here are some key points that should be included:
Basics about the individual you were assigned – this includes where they were born and a little bit about their early life.
How did they get involved in civil rights activism? Did they experience discrimnation at some point? What led them to fight for the rights of African Americans? What’s their story and what are their views?
How did they get involved in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s/1960s?
What Civil Rights group did they belong to? What were the views of that group?
What was your activist’s role in that group? What did they do/what was their impact on the Civil Rights Movement?
What happened to your activist after the movement?
Reflection: How do you feel about your activist? Do you think they played an important role in the movement? Reflect on your activist.
CITATION PAGE: ALL SOURCES MUST BE CITED IN MLA FORMAT. WIKIPEDIA IS OFF LIMITS AND CANNOT BE USED AS A SOURCE. ALL PAPERS WILL BE CHECKED FOR PLAGIARISM. PLAGIARISM RESULTS IN AN AUTOMATIC FAILURE AND REFERRAL.
Be prepared to essentially take on the role of your activist, which will be one of your last summatives of the trimester. On top of your research paper, you will also be debating in class while roleplaying your activist/leader. It will also be based on the group your activist belonged to, so be sure to be prepared to debate and play out your activist.
