Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing question and need guidance to help me learn.

Discussion (250-300 words) and 2 replies (70-100 words each) for comm 228 course.COMM 228 discussion:

Have a look at the study reported in Slate. (New York Magazine has another take on it but it’s not behind a paywall. Either will suffice for this assignment.) Notice the focus is on the relationship between sexting and sexual satisfaction. Note there is an overall effect, and one for people who weren’t in committed relationship. For people in committed relationships, not so much…

Everything is quantified, which is right up our alley. Notice, though, that there is some disagreement as to what the results indicate regarding “affirmative consent.” Comment on one of the following:

1. How might one quantify sexual satisfaction? (You can follow the link to the original study to see how the researchers did it.)

2. Sexting is measured as whether respondents had sexted before. Is that a “good enough” measure? Should the content of sexting be considered? How would you measure it?

3. Given that the effects differ across type of relationship, how might one use or “apply” the findings. For example, should people “sext” more?
